Some businesses are done just to grab the market share. They may never make any profits but they will have higher recall value among its customers.

Best example is Amazon.

Also, Ratan Tata has a big ego. He is just trying to do what he couldn't do in his younger years. He has shown his emotional side many times, such as buying Corus and kicking out Mistry.

Or they should hand it over to vijay mallya
He would change the air hostesses first(from aunties to hot bombs) then scrap the airline like kingfisher

LMAO... don't be so shortsighted!

Look at their business history. They started making serious profits only during the past 8 quarters.

Amazon is always quoted as an example of a thriving business, but not making profit. They knew that someday they'll make profit but before that, they needed to expand and grab every opportunity.

Amazon invested in itself.

Answer lies in Ur quote

They have started making profit in last 2 years, we are talking as of today, so what wrong did I say ?

Belief is the base in any business, be it Online platform or anything else

It's not about making profit... that's not how all the big businesses work. They invest the revenues in their own growth... which reduces profits.

That's what I said in the beginning. You are unnecessarily twisting the things.

At first instance, u cannot compare an airline company with an online portal (Not twisted)
Indian airlines have always been bleeding losses and it was Indigo which ultimately became first airline to declare operational profit, spice followed up later. Go is still on loss I suppose and Jet has very little margin positive now

As far as Amazon goes, their business cycle is totally different than other industries.

This ain't twisting now

1) Amazon buys off businesses without caring for profits.

2) Tata is on buying spree without using brains (or caring for profits).

3) Both the companies want to grab as much business opportunities as possible. Without looking at the profit margins.

That's the comparison I was trying to make when you started nitpicking on 'profits'. 0 profits is thousand times better than making losses!

Who cares whether Amazon is making profits or not... when they themselves didn't have the word 'profits' on their agenda?
